West Kootenay 100% Renewable Energy Plan
The City of Castlegar, in collaboration with other local governments in the West Kootenay, and the West Kootenay Eco-Society, has released the final report for the West Kootenay 100% Renewable Energy Plan.
This report provides a pathway to a renewable energy future by 2050 with a focus on BIG MOVES in transportation, building, zero waste, renewable energy and other supportive actions.
Castlegar has identified potential actions for each BIG MOVES strategy, including:
- Development of an electric vehicle charging strategy
- Increasing efficiency requirements for new buildings (BC Energy Step Code)
- Adopting a voluntary standard for retrofitting older buildings
- Participating in regional organics composting
Additional potential actions are identified in the final report. To review this document and keep up to date on this initiative, we encourage you to visit the project website at:

A special thank you to all Castlegar and area community members who participated and contributed to this project's success.
