City Reopens Millennium Park Natural Ponds
The City of Castlegar has reopened the Millennium Park Natural Ponds.
Reopening for the season was delayed as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic and public health guidance and recent high water levels on the Columbia River.
The natural ponds include a recreational beach and three swimming areas on the Columbia River for residents and visitors to enjoy. It’s one of Castlegar’s most popular spots.
The top pond is designed for use by youngsters and their families, the middle pond is designed for teenagers and adults, and the bottom pond, the largest of the three, has a small waterslide. Each pond is surrounded by a nice sandy beach.
The surrounding area includes a concession, sports fields, outdoor workout area, dog park, bike park, camas conservation area, and beach volleyball, pickleball and tennis courts.
Residents are asked to use caution and help prevent the spread of COVID-19 by:
- staying home if you’re feeling unwell
- practicing physical distancing by keeping at least two metres space from others
- washing your hands thoroughly and bringing hand sanitizer with you
- avoiding touching your face
- coughing or sneeze into your elbow or tissue
- limiting use at busy times and not creating crowds
- considering wearing a non-medical mask
The Regional District of Central Kootenay has hired Water Safety Ambassadors who will spend time at the Millennium Park Natural Ponds providing tips and other activities to promote water safety and drowning prevention.
The City has installed COVID-19 signs at all public parks. View more information on the City’s response to COVID-19 at castlegar.ca/covid19.
