Communications & Engagement Survey
Seeking the best way to keep its citizens informed, the City of Castlegar has partnered with the Interdisciplinary Intern Research Team at Selkirk College’s Applied Research & Innovation Centre (ARIC).
From the city budget to snow removal information and employment opportunities to capital projects, the city is enhancing its participation and engagement within the community. As a priority in its strategic plan, the city is currently gathering public feedback through a survey being conducted by student and faculty researchers at Selkirk College.
“This is a great opportunity for our team to work directly with community leaders,” says Dr. Adela Kincaid, the Selkirk College faculty researcher who supervises the intern team. “This is important work that will result in better communication between the City of Castlegar and its residents. We are pleased to be part of this project.”
The survey is available online for all Castlegar residents and also being distributed to 800 random Castlegar addresses to ensure the results will be statistically valid. Citizens are being asked to take the short survey to determine which communication channels work best and where the focus should be going forward.
“We know people receive information about the city in different ways and we want to better understand how people are currently getting information and how we can tailor our communications to get our residents the information they want, when and how they want it,” says Bree Seabrook, Communications Manager for the City of Castlegar. “It could be social media, word of mouth, email, the city website, local media… there is no right or wrong answer. This partnership with Selkirk College allows us to hear from our citizens so that we can better serve them in the future.”
The ARIC building is located next to the West Kootenay Regional Airport near Castlegar Campus. More than 30 student and faculty researchers are currently working on a multitude of local projects for both the private and public sectors. Recent research supporting economic resilience, tourism and local business enhancement, and social and environmental well-being has established the Interdisciplinary Intern Research Team as a leader in the province.
