Council Highlights - February 22, 2022

Council Meetings

Council discussed the return of in-person meetings. Starting March 7, 2022 the public will once again be able to participate in person at Council Chambers at the Community Forum, 445 13th Avenue. Masks will be required, and capacity is limited to 50 people total, including City Councillors and staff. The City will continue providing an option for online participation in Council meetings through Zoom.

Council remuneration Review Select Committee

Council considered a report from the Director of Corporate Services to appoint three community members and one Council member to a Council Remuneration Review Select Committee to conduct a review of remuneration paid to Mayor and Councillors, as is required by Council Indemnity Bylaw 835. This will be considered for final adoption at the March 7, 2022 Regular Council Meeting.

Records and Information Management Digitization Disposal Policy

Council received a report from the Manager of Corporate Services to approve Records and Information Management Digitization Disposal Policy 1-17 which sets out the conditions for the disposal of original source records once they have been digitized. This will be considered for final adoption at the March 7, 2022 Regular Council Meeting.

Community Projects

  • Council will write a letter of support to the Kootenay Gallery to accompany its request to secure funds from the Province of British Columbia through the Community Gaming Grant.
  • Council agreed to light the Kinnaird overpass teal on April 11 to recognize World Parkinson’s Day April 11, 2022.

Bylaws for Consideration

  • Council gave First and Second readings to Zoning Amendment Bylaw 1379, which permits the construction of a commercial and residential mixed-use development at 2405 Columbia Avenue and 2404 6th Avenue, to allow the application to move to a formal Public Hearing. The Public Hearing will take place March 14, 2022 at 6 p.m. Find more information at castlegar.ca/development
  • Council provided consent, on behalf of the City of Castlegar electors, to the Board of the Regional District of Central Kootenay adopting Bylaw No. 2807 Castlegar and District Economic Development Service Establishment.
