Council Highlights - November 15, 2021

Presentation
Lindsey Dewart, WildSafeBC Castlegar Coordinator, provided the year end report highlighting bear safety and human-wildlife conflict in the community. The presentation confirmed that domestic and commercial garbage continues to be the biggest wildlife attractant followed by unmanaged fruit and nut trees.
Economic Development
Council reviewed a travel authorization for Mayor Duff to attend the 2022 BC Council of Forest Industries (COFI) Annual Convention in Vancouver April 27-29, 2022. This is the largest gathering of the forestry sector in western Canada and brings together industry executives, local, provincial, federal and indigenous leaders, and community and labour leaders to discuss key issues and opportunities facing BC's forest industry. The convention aligns with the:
- Castlegar and District Economic Development Strategy, which has identified Forestry sector growth as the number one goal.
- City of Castlegar 2019-2023 Strategic Plan pillar of creating thriving and resilient businesses and industry.

City Hall Holiday Closure
Council approved a closure of City Hall on December 29, 30 and 31, 2021 during the holiday season. Operations such as snow clearing will remain active during this period.
Grants
Council approved a funding application for up to $15,000 to the Department of Canadian HeritageāCelebrate Canada Program to support 2022 Canada Day celebrations.
Bylaws for Consideration
Council adopted Columbia Avenue Phase 2 Loan Authorization Bylaw 1348.
