Mayor’s COVID-19 Reminder to the Community

Mayor’s COVID-19 Reminder to the Community

The Mayor of Castlegar is reminding the community now is the time to act and follow instructions from provincial health officials.

In a joint statement yesterday, Adrian Dix, Minister of Health, and Dr. Bonnie Henry, B.C.'s provincial health officer noted three things people can do to help all of us:

  1. Use hand hygiene
  2. Maintain social or physical distancing
  3. Stay at home if you are sick or at high risk for serious illness

They are reminding people there are provincial health officer orders in place requiring 14-day self-isolation for travelers returning from abroad, restricting travel, mass gatherings and operations of bars and clubs, in addition to requirements for social distancing in restaurants and indefinite suspension of school classes.

“This is a public health emergency and now is our time to act,” says Mayor Bruno Tassone who is currently working from home. “By taking individual action and working together, I am confident we can get through this – we are a strong and resilient community.”

Please help the vulnerable and your neighbours, friends and family might also need support or may be feeling isolated. Deliver groceries, offer a helping hand, or reach out virtually. Every little bit helps.

The City is taking action to protect its staff and the community during this uncertain time. It has closed its City Hall, Community Forum, Civic Works office and Fire Hall reception to the public until further notice and has increased daily sanitization at City-owned facilities.
