LET’S GET GROWING - Compost Delivery
We know nothing is normal this year and that’s why we’re making it better! We also know more people are interested in local food security and maintaining a thriving backyard garden and we want to help.
The City is offering free, high-quality compost made from local yard waste compost that it collects throughout the year near the Recreation Complex. The leaves, branches, and lawn clippings are ground, windrow composted and then screened into a rich black soil (or Class “A” compost) that is excellent for plants.
Thanks to a partnership with Selkirk Paving Ltd., the City will deliver compost to everyone in the City that wants it.
HOW TO GET IT
City workers will be in your area to deliver compost to your home, absolutely free. All we ask is that you leave something out to show where you want it placed. A sign and tarp (as shown below) work best to keep things moving quickly and make the deliveries easy but wheelbarrows and other containers work as well.
HOW MUCH YOU GET
Each residence can get up to the equivalent of ~2 wheelbarrows.
WHEN WE'LL BE IN YOUR AREA
We’re not sure exactly how long it will take to work through each section but we’ll be starting in section 1 and then moving to section 2 and so on. Click here to determine which section you're in.
We’ll update castlegar.ca/compost and Facebook before moving into new sections so you know when to expect us.
Grandview - complete May 14
Blueberry - Expected to resume May 26. **Delivery started Friday, May 15 but was halted due to mechanical issues.**
Council, City staff and Grandview Heights residents gathered (2 metres apart) with representatives from Selkirk Paving Ltd. to say thank you and kick-off the program on May 14.
