Grape vines and vivid backcountry. Places only the bears will hear you and places where humanoid conversation feels like a group hug.
Hot summers and snowy, warm winters. In our contrasts lies our soul – a place that cares about living better not just more.
The tall rocks that hug us make us as unique as a snowflake in B.C. Our culture makes us different. Warmth, creativity, and openness bring an easy sense of belonging.
Castlegar is the West Kootenay’s service centre, including the West Kootenay Regional Airport and Selkirk College’s main campus. Business is important to us because it helps pay for amenities and services that elevate lives to be lived here, but here the lifestyle dog still wags the business tail.
Castlegar is hub-central for exploring life’s tickle trunk of outdoor activity in the West Kootenays. Camp, hike, shop, golf, fish, mountain bike, pursue arts and culture, or wildlife watch.
We’re also proud of developments that are transforming the City. For cultural pursuits, our Sculpture Walk is full of inspiration. Millennium Ponds, built in 2014, offers sand beach swimming adjacent to the Columbia River. Additions within Millennium Park in 2017 included pickleball and tennis courts, and a dog park. Columbia Avenue Redevelopment is in the process of sprucing up a focal point of community commercial life.
