Golf Digest magazine recently honoured the Castlegar Golf Club, which is located an easy 10-minute drive from downtown, with a four-star rating, making it one of the best courses to play in British Columbia. It’s been the host of the BC Men’s Amateur Championship four times as well as numerous other Provincial and National Championships.

Aside from that course, the other notable one within the city is Little Bear Golf Course, an executive par 3 that’s a great spot for your next meeting or a quick round. How to Get Here: Little Bear and the Castlegar Golf Club and RV Park are both located within a five-minute drive of the highway junction in the city. Each is situated near the Columbia River and boast views of the beautiful surrounding mountains. It also needs to be said there are Stay and Play golf packages with local accommodations that offer discounts if you’re in the city to golf.

Weather: Castlegar’s golfing season usually starts in May and extends through to late October. Because of the high average of sunny days in the valley, it’s not too often you have to worry about bringing an umbrella onto the links in the summer months.

Types of Golfing: Little Bear Golf Club offers an executive par 3 experience while the Castlegar Golf Club and RV Park is a championship 18 hole, semi-private course with a fully stocked golf shop, restaurant, clubhouse and a 20 site RV park. There’s also a driving range and practice greens.

Clubs: The closest clubs to downtown Castlegar are Little Bear and the Castlegar Golf Club but there are a dozen others all located within a 45-minute drive of the city. Base yourself in Castlegar and then enjoy a Kootenay Rockies golf holiday.
